The A’chik Organisation for Social Welfare (AOSW) has raised its concern over “ghost development” projects in Williamnagar, specifically the “invisible” construction of two waiting sheds using funds under the MP Local Area Development scheme.
The two sheds were budgeted at Rs 2.5 lakh each, one near Sacred Heart School and the other near Sampalgre Morning Star English School.
The AOSW used Right to Information (RTI) requests to find that the amounts were billed despite no work on the ground being carried out.
The pressure group also slammed Tura MP Agatha Sangma (without naming her) for allotting only Rs 10 lakh for the Williamnagar between 2018 and 2022 out of the Rs 5 crore in MPLADS funding she is entitled to use annually.
The apparent “ghost development” means that what little Williamnagar should have gained from the scheme is still wanting.
The AOSW asked other organisations and activists to probe the implementation of this and other schemes in their areas to uncover any similar failings.
