As part of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration and other trans-border crimes, jawans acting on specific intelligence, intercepted and apprehended five individuals in two separate incidents yesterday while attempting to illegal cross the international border from Bangladesh into India.
Two Bangladeshi nationals, residents of Sunamganj district, were apprehended by members of the BSF’s 193rd Battalion along the international border in East Khasi Hills. They revealed that they had crossed the border in search of job opportunities in India. Both individuals were handed over to Dangar police for further legal action.
In another operation, troops of the 50th Battalion detected suspicious movement along the border and promptly acted, leading to the apprehension of three Bangladeshi nationals, residents of Pabna, Sherpur and Kishoreganj districts. Further inquiries revealed that the trio had been working as tailors in a garment factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. They were handed over to the Mahendraganj police station in West Garo Hills for further legal proceedings.
