Another 19 Covid-related deaths were reported in Meghalaya today, along with 569 new infections and a record 354 recoveries.
Sixteen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills. Sixteen out of the 19 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.
The deceased were identified as Cecilia Khriam (73) of Malki in Shillong, Probita Dey (64) of Nongmynsong in Shillong, Bildaris Khardewsaw (56) of Mawpun, Shandra Kada Thapa (57) of Laitkor, Ranjit Kharkongor (52) of Jhalupara in Shillong, Harlancis Mairom (62) of Shella Sohra, Brighterson Nongrum (63) of Bishnupur in Shillong, Iolin Nongbet (58) of Nongrah Nongpdeng, Charly Suna (64) of Chiehruphi Khliehriat, Rushelline Ch Marak (53) of Rongkhon Songgital, Kwir Rapsang (70) of Jaiaw in Shillong, Elenroy Syngkli (39) of Pahamsyiem, Ialinda Jaba (35) of Mawphlang, Arun D Sangma (26) of Borsora, Jaganath Paul (45) of Jowai, Kwer Lyngdoh (76) of Mawlai Umthlong, Bishu Das (42) of Laban in Shillong, Kynsaibor Mairom (67) of Sadew and Flora Kharkongor (65) of Pohkseh in Shillong.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 274 of today’s reported infections – 33 among returnees, three among armed forces/paramilitaries, 99 high-risk contacts, 47 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), 25 through screening, 14 severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), two in Bishnupur, two in Demseniong, one in Iewduh, four in Jaiaw, one in Jongksha, three in Laban, one in Lachumiere, one in Laitkor, two in Laitumkhrah, five in Madanrting, two in Mawbah, one in Mawdiangdiang, one in Malki, four in Mawlai, one in Mawpat, four in Mawprem, two in Motinagar, four in Nongthymmai, five in Khyndailad, two in Polo, one in Pomlum and four in Sohiong.
Ri-Bhoi reported 117 new cases (40 high-risk, 17 in Nongrah A, 12 ILIs, 10 in Umroi, nine in Pahamsyiem, nine police personnel, five armed forces/paramilitaries, five in Paynthor, four in Umeit, three returnees, two screening, one in Rangmen), West Jaintia Hills 43 (32 high-risk, 10 ILIs, one police), West Garo Hills 34 (12 ILIs, nine high-risk, four armed forces/paramilitaries, four screening, three health workers, one returnee, one SARI), West Khasi Hills 33 (12 in Nongkasen, seven in Bangla Mission, five in Mairang Mission, three ILIs, three screening, two high-risk, one SARI), South West Garo Hills 31 (17 screening, seven high-risk, five health workers, two ILIs), East Jaintia Hills 19 (18 high-risk, one ILI), South Garo Hills eight (three high-risk, three ILIs, two screening), South West Khasi Hills seven (six high-risk, one SARI) and East Garo Hills three (one health worker, one ILI, one SARI).
There were also 354 recoveries today – 213 in East Khasi Hills, 55 in Ri-Bhoi, 26 in West Garo Hills, 21 in West Khasi Hills, 16 in East Jaintia Hills, nine in West Jaintia Hills, six in South Garo Hills, four in East Garo Hills and four in South West Garo Hills.
There are now 4,534 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 2,497 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 651, West Garo Hills 399, West Jaintia Hills 298, South West Garo Hills 187, East Jaintia Hills 176 and West Khasi Hills 153.
In all, Meghalaya has had 23,332 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,534 are active, 18,478 have recovered and 320 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 79.20 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.37 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 516.29. More than 4 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of today.
