Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, will begin 45-minute flights on turboprop aircraft between Shillong and Guwahati, it was announced by the airline today.
The new route is part of a new Guwahati-Shillong-Dimapur flight operation to be launched on November 22 under the central government’s subsidised programme, Udaan.
The route will operate four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
The 70-seat flights will depart Guwahati at 12:20pm and reach Shillong’s Umroi Airport at 1:05pm. They will then depart Umroi at 1:30pm and arrive in Dimapur at 2:20pm. The return journey will leave Dimapur at 2:50pm and arrive in Shillong at 3:40pm before taking off at 4:05pm and landing in Guwahati at 5:10pm.
Fares between Guwahati and Shillong (both directions) will be a whopping Rs 1,786 one way, labelled as an introductory offer. Shillong-Dimapur will cost Rs 1,887 while the reverse journey will set a traveller back Rs 2,302.
Given that Umroi Airport is some 30km away from Shillong proper, the only travellers likely to want to fly from there to Guwahati would be those who have a connecting flight to catch.
