Teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA Schools Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) today held a rally in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, over their salaries that have gone unpaid for four months now.
The rally saw a huge number of teachers, all aligned with AGHSSASTA, walking through the town with placards demanding their salaries be released.
The rally began at the Rongrenggre HS School playground before going through the road through the DC’s office and the main market.
The protesting teachers later submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister, Lakhmen Rymbui, through the Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, with their demands.
“We have been patiently holding on for the government to release our salaries since June this year. However it is four months now and there is no word on our salaries. How long can we work this way? We are beyond frustrated,” stated the teachers.
