The implementation of central government schemes in East Garo Hills was reviewed by Tura MP Agatha Sangma and Williamnagar MLA Marcuise N Marak in Williamnagar today.
The meeting studied the progress of schemes such as those for farmers (PM-KISAN), the National Health Mission, rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS), housing (PMAY), water (Jal Jeevan Mission) and others.
Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe presided over the meeting and informed that necessary steps are being initiated to make the district self-sufficient in terms of fisheries, agriculture, horticulture and in other areas.
Earlier, Sangma attended a public hearing presided over by the Block Development Officer of Samanda Community and Rural Development Block, Albert G Momin, where the Village Employment Councils highlighted their grievances relating to the enhancement of wages for the semi-skilled, construction of low-cost houses, construction of a model residential school, water connectivity, etc.
The MP promised that she would study the problems of the VECs.
