Fresh from making a splash at the recent Assembly elections, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is now looking to increase its footprint in Meghalaya by contesting next year’s Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Lok Sabha elections.
In a release today, VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh thanked all the supporters of the new party across the state.
“Your strong support has made a mark in the politics of Meghalaya when four of our candidates emerged victoriously to represent the issues affecting the citizens of the state,” he said.
The VPP fielded candidates in 17 seats in Khasi-Jaintia Hills and won four, with strong performances in some of the others as well. It has decided to sit in the opposition as it wants independent probes into allegations of massive corruption that have been levelled at the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in its previous iteration.
“Your support to the party that stands for clean and principled politics and substantive democracy provides hope that the state of Meghalaya will one day be a model state in India – a state that we will be proud of,” Myrboh added.
As such, the VPP has appealed to the public for further support as it plans to contest the KHADC and Parliamentary elections and will decide on the names of its candidates at the appropriate time
