A social activist has appealed to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to cancel the transfer of South Garo Hills’ Deputy Commissioner, SF Hamid.
Hamid is set to go on central deputation for a period of three years to his home territory of Jammu & Kashmir. However, his transfer has not gone down too well with the residents of the district, as it has been only around two months since he was posted there.
“On behalf of the people of SGH, we seek your intervention into the transfer of the IAS officer. He is very sincere and committed to the development of the district and even in the short time that he has been here we have seen progress and development going in the right direction. We do not know the reason for his transfer and whether it is intentionally done by your government,” said Greneth M Sangma in his letter to the CM.
He complained that IAS officers are often transferred out of the district at too short intervals.
The activist alleged that the transfer was due to political interference.
“I request the MLAs of SGH, particularly of the government, to consider our genuine demand. We deserve an IAS DC in our district who deals directly with the people, with innovative ideas to uplift the most underdeveloped district in the state,” asserted Greneth.
