The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) today said that it had sought clarification from the Director of the Urban Affairs Department on yesterday’s complaint by the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) on the non-appointment of Garos.
ACHIK’s general secretary Bernita R Marak had said that the Director, E Kharmalki, had broken the law by not appointing Garos to 13 sanctioned posts in the department as advertised and for which a list of Garos had been submitted. Marak demanded that the appointments be repealed.
However, Kharmalki reportedly explained to HITO that, out of 16 Grade 4 posts sanctioned in 2019, 10 went to members of the Khasi-Jaintia community and four to the Garos. There are thus only two vacant posts to be filled by the Garo community. These posts have also been redesignated from sweeper to peon and cleaner to chowkidar, Kharmalki informed.
“The Director also told us that the 13 names were sent from the employment exchange for the personal interview for the two vacant posts that belong to the Garo community and not that there are 13 vacant posts,” HITO president Donbok Dkhar said.
