The 8th State Conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Meghalaya, a right-wing Hindutva students’ organisation, had its official inauguration here yesterday.
The conference began with district-level meetings yesterday. Today’s inauguration saw Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar, cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek and ABVP national vice-president Sudipta Mukhopadhyay attend.
In his address the Governor said that all he is today is because of the ABVP, an organisation that he was part of in his youth. He added that the ABVP has been doing constructive work for the state and country and he fully intends to help in the progress and development of each sector of Meghalaya and will contribute constructively for the youth and students of the state.
Hek lauded the initiatives of the ABVP Meghalaya in developing the students’ community and institutions through its various domains. Mukhopadhyay, meanwhile, mentioned the role of students in building the nation by being an active member of the organisation.
The function was attended by over 500 delegates, including institution heads, professors, teachers, entrepreneurs, well-wishers, students and youth from across Meghalaya.
The ceremony began with a flag hoisting, symbolising unity and dedication, followed by an exhibition that highlighted the cultural heritage of Meghalaya.
The conference will continue with a role model session tomorrow, where distinguished personalities from various fields will share their experiences to inspire and motivate the student and youth delegates. On the same day, a cultural rally will showcase the diverse and rich heritage of Meghalaya.
