Nongpoh, Aug 2: Albertus Lapang, who two months back quit as the organising secretary of the NPP’s youth wing (the National People’s Youth Front), joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Albertus, the nephew of former Chief Minister DD Lapang, was welcomed to the BJP at a function organised on Saturday at the Dorbar Hall of Harlibagan, Byrnihat.
Once an important functionary of the NPP, Jirang block, Alberturs stated his decision was a realisation that all development works to Meghalaya comes from the BJP and not by the NPP as it claims.
He said he desired genuine change that would benefit all citizens of Meghalaya and not just for a few individuals.
“The NPP brings change only for a select few, its top leaders, who within just two or three years have become wealthy and hold the ‘high level’ status, rather than delivering change for the entire state,” he stated.
Albertus believed that the BJP could bring substantial development to Meghalaya, as has been witnessed in other BJP-ruled states across India. Without the BJP’s initiatives, he claimed, such development projects would not exist in Meghalaya.
Besides Albertus, the BJP induction also saw several other leaders from the NPP, UDP and the Congress. They were welcomed by BJP leaders, including State Yuva Morcha President Mewaker Lyngdoh, Ri Bhoi District BJP President Sen Thabah, and other BJP leaders from Jirang and across Ri Bhoi district.
The BJP Jirang Mandal also felicitated Johny Nongrum, a prominent MMA fighter from the state.
