Mawkyrwat, Aug 1: Residents of various villages situated along the international border in South West Khasi Hills are a perturbed lot, as reportedly Bangladeshis have been stealing in broad daylight.
These incidents have been reported from Borsora, Cheragoan, Rongdu, Bagli, Kalagoan, Rajaju, Lakma, Sawlymbor, Nongjri and Nonghyllam.
Residents have shared videos with the press with the claim that immigrants from Bangladesh sneaked in to steal whatever they could lay hands on. One of the videos shows men carrying sacks on their backs. However, what they were carrying cannot be independently verified, but residents claim it is coal.
While the Border Security Force (BSF) has been committing that its vigilant troops continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders, residents are questioning its dedication if border crimes are happening under its nose.
