Shillong, Jul 30: A one-day medical assessment camp for renewal of Disability Certificates was successfully organized at Multi Facility Centre (BADO), Ampati, South West Garo Hills on Tuesday.
The camp was organized by District School Education Officer and District Mission Coordinator and District Project Officer in collaboration with District Social Welfare Officer.
The assessment was conducted by four specialist doctors – Dr. Subir Hussain Junior specialist ENT, Dr. Elivia N. Sangma MD Opthamologist, Dr. Steve Cherak R.Marak Psychiatrist, and Dr. Sunny M. Sangma, Junior specialist Orthopaedic – who was deputed by the Medical Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital. They were assisted by Audiologist Ms. Saka Moikinshang and Physiotherapist Sujata Das and others.
Altogether 293 PWDs were registered during the assessment camp, out of which 74 were locomotor problems, 29 visually impaired, 50 ENT and 60 mentally challenged patients.
Following the medical assessment and thorough examination the District Resource Centre on Disability Affairs (DRCDA), Tura Civil Hospital will carry out registration under the Unique Disability Identity (UDID) and certificates and cards generated would be handed over to PWDs through Community-based Rehabilitation Workers (CBRWs) and Multipurpose Rehabilitation Workers (MRWs).
