Jowai, Jul 24: Opposition Members in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) were left frustrated with the conduct of the summer session.
The summer session of the JHADC, which began today and ended on the same day, saw only the Question Hour, tabling of the CAG report 2017-2018, 2018-2019, a motion and others.
The VPP MDCs criticised Deputy Chairman Wailad Dameshwa Siangshai as most of the questions put up were not taken up due to the short duration of the session.
When the session ended, the opposition members met the Deputy Chairman demanding that members should be given ample time to put up questions in the future.
MDC Andrew A Shullai said as per rules the business session should be extended to the next day. He said the only few opposition members were able to raise questions, that too, only three each.
VPP MDC Deiwipaya T. Tongper said the members wanted an answer on the allegations of illegal collection at the Sonapur weighbridge and the Ratacherra forest beat office. She said short sessions are a waste for members who have worked hard to do their homework and to raise important issues.
Other MDCs Jamshaphrang Pohtam and Nehimaia Lamare said members have the privilege to ask questions during the Question Hour and said members cannot go to the streets and raise questions.
