The District and Sessions Court of Shillong has extended the judicial custody of Sonam Raghuvanshi and her alleged accomplice Raj Singh Kushwaha by another 14 days in the sensational Raja Raghuvanshi murder case.
The order, issued by Judge DKK Mihsill on July 18, directs that Sonam and Raj, both accused of plotting the murder of Raja, remain in custody.
The previous day, the court had issued a similar order remanding three other accused -Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi and Vishal Chauhan – who allegedly formed the gang hired by Sonam to carry out the murder of her husband. The hearing was conducted via video conference.
Meanwhile, the court granted bail to Silome James, another one of the accused in the case.
James was granted bail with a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties. The court imposed several conditions, including that James must not influence the investigation, tamper with evidence, or contact witnesses. He is also required to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and appear before the court as directed.
The prosecution had opposed James’ bail plea, citing his alleged role in destroying evidence related to the case.
James, a property dealer, is accused of leasing a flat to Sonam and concealing items belonging to her and her accomplices, including a country-made pistol, jewellery, laptop and cash. He later revealed the locations of these items to the police.
