Commuters have been told to be cautious while travelling on the road between Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem due to the danger of landslides.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Pynursla issued the warning on Wednesday, advising against “unnecessary travel during the next few hours”. It is unclear how long this warning is meant for.
The stretch between Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem (Chainage Kms 24+00 – 37+00) has been undergoing road construction work since last month. The SDO said that the entire Shillong-Dawki route “in general” remains vulnerable to landslides owing to incessant rainfall.
Many places along this route received between 40mm and 70mm of rain today, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.
