The foundation stone for Tura’s first Electric-Hybrid Crematorium was laid today at Mokshadham, the Hindu Samshan Bhumi, marking a significant step towards eco-friendly cremation practices.
The Rs 5 crore project, implemented by the Department of Urban Affairs, aims to phase out traditional wood-based cremation, reducing emissions, environmental degradation, and health hazards.
The facility will use a combination of LPG and electricity, offering a cleaner alternative. The Tura Hindu Samshan Bhumi Committee (THSBC) has been working towards modernizing Mokshadham, introducing reforms such as the Shashan Kali Mandir and eco-friendly cremation units.
