Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, Hema Nayak, accompanied by Digonto Hajong, Block Development Officer of Zikzak C&RD Block, carried out a series of inspection visits across Mahendraganj and nearby areas on Friday to assess the progress of ongoing health, education, and infrastructure projects.
The inspections are part of the district administration’s commitment to efficient implementation of government schemes and improving the quality of life for all citizens, laying a strong focus on improving service delivery and infrastructure development for the welfare of the people of South West Garo Hills.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected Mahendraganj Community Health Centre (CHC), including all departmental registers, USG rooms, and transit rooms.
She held discussions with Dr. Noor Ain Khan, Senior M&HO In-Charge, regarding the implementation of various government health programmes, including Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) and the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
Nayak expressed satisfaction at the CHC’s remarkable achievements, including, zero maternal deaths and zero home deliveries over the last two years and zero infant deaths and stillbirths recorded in the past four months.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress of the Science and Commerce College in Mahendraganj.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining construction quality and completing the project in a timely manner so that the academic session can begin in August 2025.
As Chairperson of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), the Deputy Commissioner conducted a field inspection of the Silkona Combined Water Supply Scheme, accompanied by the BDO, Executive Engineer (PHE) Ampati Division, SDO (PHE) Ampati Sub-Division, Junior Engineers, and the project contractor.
It was informed that the scheme is expected to benefit 11 villages, covering 1,880 households. 10 villages are already receiving water supply, with pipeline work ongoing in the remaining villages.
Physical progress stands at 92 per cent as a power supply issue at the intake area has temporarily halted pumping operations.
Nayak instructed the concerned authorities to resolve the power issue urgently and ensure timely project completion.
The visit concluded with an inspection of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Zikzak, where the Deputy Commissioner interacted with students and teachers and reviewed the school’s infrastructure and functioning.
