A stakeholders meeting on “Scientific Cultivation for Sustainable Production of Arecanut and Cocoa” was held at the Meghalaya Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (MAMETI), Upper Shillong yesterday.
The meeting was organised by the ICAR- Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod, Kerala, in collaboration with the Directorate of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and the Department of Soil & Water Conservation Meghalaya.
Scientists from Kerala and Assam shared information of arecanut production technologies, plant health management and prospects of Cocoa cultivation in Meghalaya.
About 100 participants including senior officials from the Directorate of Horticulture, Agriculture, KVKs, ATMA functionaries and farmers attended the programme.
Earlier, a field visit to the Budrot-affected Arecanut plantation at Nongmyndoo Village, West Khasi Hills district was conducted where experts shared the knowledge with the farmers for prevention and control of Budrot/ Crownrot in the crop.
