Meghalaya through its DREAM Mission commenced the second vocational training programme for women recovering from substance abuse.
The programme, which is aimed to empower women in their recovery journey, was held in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), North-East Institute of Professional Studies (NEIPS), BIDS, and ITI.
The women residents at the New Hope De-Addiction Centre in Mawkasiang actively participated in the program today, displaying a high level of enthusiasm and commitment.
Various sessions were conducted, covering a diverse range of skills, including beauty therapy, bakery and confectionery, electronics repair, driving and mechanics, culinary arts, embroidery and weaving, wire work, surveying, and more.
Additionally, the program introduced the participants to overseas employment opportunities, with specific focus on countries like Japan and Germany, where skilled workers are in demand. Information about free state-sponsored training programs designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills was also shared, offering the women valuable insights into career development opportunities available to them.
The inmates expressed their gratitude for the program and a strong desire to enrol in the various training initiatives. Their enthusiasm reflects a genuine commitment to building a brighter future post-recovery, an official release said.
The program has not only empowered participants with new skills but also helped build their confidence, resilience, and independence.
By fostering self-reliance and economic independence, the program plays a crucial role in supporting the reintegration of these women into society, providing them with the tools and confidence to lead fulfilling, independent lives.
