A festival cum awareness programme on organic ginger production was organised today by the ICAR- KVK- Ri-Bhoi at Tyrso village, which saw the participation of around 80 farmers.
The programme was organised as part of the Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week, which will conclude on March 21.
The event aims to motivate, attract and retain the agriculture by the farmers and rural youths of the district to enhance income and improve livelihood.
Besides the exhibition to showcase products of SHGs and FPO the programme also featured an interaction between farmers and scientists.
Mawhati MDC Kynjohlang Rangtong attended the event and encouraged farmers to cultivate organic ginger commercially. He also expressed concern about soil degradation and said sustainability of soil for enhancement of crop productivity needs to be checked in the Mawhati area.
Dr. Popiha Bordoloi, SMS (Soil Science) gave a lecture on ‘Organic Ginger cultivation in Doubling Farmers Income’, while Iohilut Lyndoh, president of FPO, Tyrso spoke on the role of Farmer Producer Organisation for socio economic development.
Principal Scientist & Head Dr. Mokidul Islam talked about the activities of ICAR- KVK RiBhoi and soil conservation and crop productivity enhancement through organic practices.
