The Meghalaya government has sought funds of 33 KV sub-stations for 24 X 7 quality power to consumers.
Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal, who attended the 28th North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) meeting held in Guwahati today, urged the forum to expedite the submission made by the MePDCL in August 2024 on the need for more sub-stations.
He emphasised on the importance of downstream infrastructure and said there is a need to ensure that there is no congestion in the distribution system.
Mondal informed the forum that Meghalaya is committed to have a robust resource adequacy plan in place to ensure that there is no probability of loss of load at any point of time.
He also sought support of other north eastern states in emphasising the central government to revisit the Pump Storage Policy so that smaller states that have the potential, but no major peak demand, get the benefit of the project.
During the meeting, the power minister also apprised the forum about the steps taken by the State government to harness the potential of hydro power available in the state. He briefed the forum on the progress of Riangdo Small Hydro Project, DPR preparation for Myndtu Leshka Stage II project and the proposal received from the private developers for small hydro projects.
He highlighted the key schemes and proposals submitted by the state of Meghalaya under the PSDF with respect to Transmission, Distribution and State Load Despatch centres, which aim at improving the system reliability, quality of supply and cyber security and requested for early sanction of the same.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya has been selected to chair the NERPC meeting for the financial year 2025-26.
