The Ri-Bhoi Peoples’ Council (RBPC) has noted that the 10 ‘health shuttle service’ vehicles belonging to the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) that were launched today by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma bear Assam registration plates and has questioned why this is.
USTM launched these vehicles to enhance healthcare services across Meghalaya through the varsity’s PA Sangma International Medical College and Hospital (PIMC). However, what concerns the RBPC is that these vehicles were registered in Assam, which, the pressure group feels, undermines the state’s authority and results in a loss of tax revenue.
Though based on the Meghalaya side of the state border, USTM is more of an Assam organisation in terms of its customs, regulations, etc, the RBPC told reporters today.
