Balawanhabor Rynjah of Sankardev College who represented the Meghalaya State Climbing and Mountaineering Association scaled the 16, 500 feet Mt. Renok earned the first position during the rock climbing competition held during the Basic Mountaineering Course in Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling.
With this win, Rynjah will be awarded Grade “A” which is the highest grade given by the Mountaineering Institutes for his fantastic performance in the training course of 51 trainees including four international students from the United States of America, France and Bhutan.
The training course was held from October 21 to November 17 sponsored by the MeSCMA through the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
The rigorous and transformative course equipped trainees with essential skills in mountaineering, including physical training, Yoga, rock climbing, ice climbing, jumar climbing, trekking, ice craft, crevasse rescue, map reading, rope techniques and rappelling.
This comprehensive training was designed to prepare participants for the challenges of high altitude expeditions.
