Eleven Bangladeshi nationals were caught trying to enter Indian territory illegally in two separate incidents today, both of which were foiled by the Border Security Force (BSF) acting in conjunction with local police.
Based on a tip-off, the BSF and police apprehended seven Bangladeshis near the international border at Baldamgiri Tinali trijunction in South West Garo Hills.
The individuals were identified as Amir Ali (35), Mir Jahan (45), Biplob Mia (35), Angur Hussain (20), Chand Mia (32), Rasel Mia (32) and Md Bakul Mia (35). All are residents of Bangladesh’s Kurigram district. They had taken shelter in Baldamgiri Tinali with the intention of proceeding to Assam for work, the BSF said in a press release.
In another incident, troops of the BSF apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals and three Indians in Dawki, East Khasi Hills.
The Bangladeshis were identified as Shorobindu Biswas (37), Royal Talukder (17), Rony Lamin (34) and Kausalla Talukdar (33). Lamin was acting as their tout from the Bangladesh side. Shankhor Saha (46), Suna Lyngdoh (22) and a 9-year-old minor were the Indians who were apprehended.
The four Bangladeshis in this case were also illegal migrants in search of work. The three Indians, on the other hand, had travelled to Bangladesh to meet relatives and were on their way back when caught by the BSF-police team.
Lamin had reportedly arranged the vehicle for the entire party, the BSF said.
All apprehended individuals were handed over to police for investigation and further necessary action.
