The special taskforce of Guwahati Police arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized heroin worth more than Rs 4 crore in an operation conducted today morning.
After receiving a tip, police conducted a raid in front of the North East Cancer Hospital in Jorabat and managed to seize heroin from the Assam-registered truck (AS 01RC 2336) while it was heading towards Guwahati from Nagaland.
During the search of the truck, police recovered 45 soap boxes containing the heroin weighing 537.2 grammes.
In connection with this incident, police have arrested the suspected drug dealer, who was the driver of the truck, Rananjay Mandal (46). He is from Bamunkuchi village in Barpeta district and currently lives in Bengali Basti of Guwahati.
