Along with the rest of the world, Mental Health Day was organised by various institutions in the State on the theme, “It’s Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace.”
Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) today hosted a special event held at Herman Hall, Divine Saviour Parish, Nongthymmai here.
The programme was organised by the Department of Psychology and Wellbeing in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Centre for Counseling.
The event aimed to highlight the significance of mental wellbeing in professional settings and provide practical insights on addressing workplace mental health challenges.
The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Aliscacia M. Swett, Deputy Registrar of MLCU, who set the tone for the day by emphasising the need for creating supportive workspaces. This was followed by a special medley performance by B.Sc. students, adding a vibrant touch to the proceedings.
The keynote address was delivered by Olivia A I Bang, an advocate along with the colleagues, underscored the crucial need for regular mental health check-ins within the workplace to ensure employee well-being.
The programme continued with a thought-provoking discussion led by Dr. T K Kharbamon, Vice-Chancellor and Dr. George Kallingal, Clinical Psychologist who provided valuable insights into the interconnection between spirituality, human life cycle functionality as well as their impact on the mental wellbeing in the workplace.
The final session, led by Counselor Maryobiang Pyrtuh, focused on addressing workplace stress within the school environment, providing practical strategies for managing and reducing stress in educational settings.
Each session concluded with an interactive question and answer session where attendees had the opportunity to address pressing concerns related to mental health in the workplace and explore potential solutions. The day ended on a lighthearted note with a fun dance session, encouraging attendees to unwind and promote happiness.
The College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (Imphal) Tura also held a programme to discuss about mental health at workplace to raise awareness about the significance of mental well-being in professional environments, promoting the development of supportive and healthy workplaces.
Nagaraja Pani, Program Manager at Narayana Health, Bengaluru in his keynote address explored into the effects of stress, fear, and trauma on both mental and physical health. He offered practical strategies for promoting workplace well-being, including the 20:20:20 rule for eye care and the 30:30:30 rule for physical activity.
Dean of the college, Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad emphasised the role of educational institutions in fostering environments that prioritise mental health. She highlighted the importance of collective efforts in breaking the stigma around mental health in the workplace.
In West Jaintia Hills, a street play was organised by the Hans Foundation in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority observed the day at Thadmuthlong-C Phramer.
