Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun visited Nongspung B village in Ri-Bhoi today to assess the situation of families impacted by illegal earth cutting by a private individual.
This earth cutting was allegedly done at the behest of a resident from the Naga community and due to this, five families of Nongspung B were badly affected as mud and sand washed away due to rainfall destroying their homes.
During his visit, Sohtun expressed his concern for the affected families, particularly during the rainy season.
As part of his commitment as local legislator, Sohtun plans to engage with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi and the Block Development Officer to discuss further support for the affected families. As initial relief, he donated Rs 30,000 in cash to the affected families.
