South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai convened a meeting with the residents of Shillong Cantonment Board in Jhalupara to discuss the issues of drug peddling and illegal immigration in the area.
Shullai highlighted the need for amending the Shillong Cantonment Board Act to recognise the village council, which could significantly help in addressing the issues in the area.
During the meeting, the Cantonment Board leaseholder Association was urged to ensure that police verification of all tenants is conducted.
Additionally, it was decided that a joint action committee would be formed to address the problems of drug peddling and illegal immigration.
Addressing the gathering, ADC of East Khasi Hills, Ronny Wahlang, emphasised the importance of the Cantonment Board acknowledging the village council.
He also stressed the need for showing love and compassion towards the families of drug addicts.
