Four suspects have been arrested by police after an assault and robbery of two victims at Shangbangla, Ri-Bhoi, today.
In the early hours, a Bolero Camper loaded with fish was being driven by two residents of Assam, Abu Sadek and Md Dildar Hussain, when it was halted on its way to Nongpoh.
The incident occurred at around 1:15am. An Assam-registered Alto (AS 01FN 4202) intercepted the fish transport and those inside the car assaulted Sadek and Hussain, stole their mobile phones and cash and fled the scene.
Upon receiving the report, a mobile patrolling unit led by Sub-Inspector SR Marak, along with other foot patrols and stations, promptly initiated a search operation in the surrounding areas. The Alto was subsequently spotted near Pahamsyiem.
Marak and his team pursued the vehicle, intercepting it near the treasury office. During the operation, one Ricky Tangsang was apprehended, while another person, later identified as Mustafa Lyngdoh, managed to evade capture after a scuffle with Marak and Head Constable I Narlong.
With assistance from the SOT team and Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Lyngdoh and two other suspects – Kyrshanbor Marwein and Shem Warjri – were eventually apprehended. Ri-Bhoi police also seized a second vehicle used in the crime, a Baleno without a number plate. Six mobile phones and Rs 6,750 in cash was also recovered.
The victims and the apprehended suspects have been sent for medical examinations. A formal FIR has been lodged, a case has been registered and investigations are ongoing.
Tangsang (26), Lyngdoh (32) and Marwein (22) are all residents of Nongpoh. Warjri (27) is a resident of Umsning Proper A.
