In a huge embarrassment for North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Education Ministry has put the university in the distant ranking in the NIRF Ranking 2024.

Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru) secured the top position among the best 100 universities in the NIRF Ranking 2024. The second and third spots were bagged by Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi) and Jamia Millia Islamia (Delhi).

NEHU on the other hand was placed in 101-150 rank-band.

Among the universities in the North East region, Tezpur University with a score of 49.01 was ranked at 69 while Mizoram University with a score of 48.03 was ranked 77.

University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), a private university located at Khanapara was placed in the 150-200 rank band.

In the college category, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong found a place in NIRF ranking in 201-300 rank band.

The top position in the NIRF ranking for colleges was won by Hindu College, Delhi. The second and third positions were secured by Miranda House (Delhi) and St. Stephen’s College (Delhi).

In the engineering category, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya with a score of 49.82 was ranked at 68 among the 100 engineering institutes of the country.

In the management category, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong was ranked at 24.

The top position was won by IIM Ahmedabad followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode at the second and third positions respectively.

In the medical category, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong failed to find a place in the ranking.

This ninth edition of the India Rankings for the year 2024 was based on the parameters identified and defined in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The NIRF provides for ranking of institutions in five broad generic groups of parameters, namely Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (O&I), and Perception (PR).
