The Krishi Vigyan Kendra conducted a farmers-scientist interaction cum distribution of ducklings under the project, “Integrated organic farming system model for livelihood security of resource poor farmers” in South Garo Hills yesterday.
The programme was held in collaboration and grant assistance from NABARD under FSPF.
Principal Scientist & Head, KVK Dr Athokpam Haribhushan briefed the gathering about the project and highlighted the research achievements, particularly in improving the socio-economic conditions of the beneficiaries through implementing various schemes and flagship programmes.
During the technical session Dr Rupam Bhattacharjya, SMS (Livestock Production) outlined the importance of duck farming in an integrated organic farming system for livelihood security. He also appraised the beneficiaries on healthcare and measures to be taken to minimise diseases in ducks and urged to adopt scientific management practices for better production and increased productivity of ducks.
The KVK also distributed 1200 ducklings to 20 beneficiaries, mostly from weaker sections of the society from four villages of Asugre, Balwatgre, Bibragre and Jetra under Chokpot Block.
The programme was attended by Willard R Marak (FOS) and Rakran R Sangma (Outsource) of SBI, Chokpot Branch as special guests.
