In a bid to enhance road safety and prevent crimes, East Khasi Hills District Police has launched a drive to remove tinted films from vehicles.

Till date tinted glasses of 109 vehicles have been removed along with fines as per law.

“As per the Motor Vehicles Act and in compliance with the Supreme Court order, tinted glass is prohibited, and violators will face penalties. In this regard, East Khasi Hills District Police is committed to ensuring road safety and preventing crimes,” the district police said.

Police also urged vehicle owners to comply with the regulations and remove tinted glass from their vehicles to avoid penalties.

Earlier, police have warned of action against the drivers who use modified vehicles.

According to police, there has been a rise in the number of vehicles, both two-wheelers and four wheelers, which are retrofitted with loud exhaust pipes causing noise pollution in the city, especially at unearthly hours causing immense discomfort to the elderly and infirm persons as well as to the young children and others who may require silence.

Further, with regard to the movement of two-wheelers, police said that it has been observed that most of the two-wheelers overtake from the left side and thus, makes it hazardous for other commuters especially for the pedestrians and passengers deboarding from the vehicles which may lead to fatal accidents.

Police also said some motorists are in the habit of violating the ‘one way’ traffic regulation thereby, posing grave threat and endangering the movement of other road users.
