Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has stated that the recruitment of staff nurses under contract basis was necessitated to meet the vacancies in facilities sanctioned by the central government.
The Director of Health Service (MI) recently invited online applications from the candidates who are domiciled in the State of Meghalaya for 325 posts of staff nurses on contractual basis to be engaged in First Referral Unit and Critical Care Unit.
However, this was met with opposition from a group of nurses who called it unjustified and sought scrapping of the recruitment process.
Lyngdoh said the government had realised that there is a huge shortage of paramedical staff in various institutes and since no proper sanction has been received for the post and on the other hand facilities have to be inaugurated, the contract post were advertised.
She informed that facilities like operation theatres, first referral units sanctioned by the centre will soon be inaugurated.
Lyngdoh also said that around 164 General Nursing and Midwifery and 60 Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife sanctioned posts will be advertised by August-September this year.
