The Achik Krima council have sought the intervention of the Director of Health Services (MI) to address the shortages in the Baghmara Civil Hospital, South Garo Hills district.
Achik vice president Greneth M Sangma highlighted the lack of specialist doctors and medical equipment. He said the hospital needs Gynaecologist, Psychologist, ENT specialist and other specialist besides medical equipment and machines in order to provide adequate treatment to patients.
“As one of the oldest districts in the state, it is disheartening to see the hospital lacking in essential medical facilities, causing immense hardship to the people of Garo Hills,” Sangma said.
Pointing out that the current lack of resources forces the civil hospital to refer patients to other hospitals, he said this is also challenging due to the deplorable road conditions and limited network communication in Garo Hills.
The Achik has also demanded upgradation of all sub-centers to PHCs in the district, including the long-pending demand for upgrading Mindikgre Sub-Center to a PHC. This will greatly enhance the healthcare facilities in the region and provide better medical care to the people, he added.
