As many as 17 schools in South West Khasi Hills have been damaged by Cyclone Remal that hit the State on May 28.
According to information provided by the District Disaster Response Authority (DDMA), the affected schools under Ranikor Block are located at Arlad, Nongmalang, Mawpyllun, Nongnah, Khadphra, Nongbah Jynrin, Chitogre, Nongmluh, Phlangdiloin, Mawphansaw and Borsora.
Two other schools were damaged under Mawkyrwat Block. They are located in Nonglang and Shaid Shaid.
In Ranikor Block, as many as five villages have been affected by the cyclone. They are Old Moilam, Lower Puksora, Panchering B, Munnai and Mawhati.
28 houses in these villages were damaged affecting 152 people. Some portions of the Ranikor Community Health Centre were also destroyed by the cyclone.
In Mawkyrwat Block, the affected village is Pyndenlyngdoh where a house was destroyed by a landslide.
