Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla has suggested the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) to work on collaborating universities to address global challenges through multidisciplinary expertise.
Shukla who visited the United Kingdom during a programme organised by ACU also spoke on the role of artificial intelligence AI in representing and protecting geographical agencies GIs: language, arts, and agriculture.
“By sharing digital curricula and classroom experiences, he also stated that ACU universities can enhance learning outcomes and prepare students for a connected world.” ACU programs such as the Commonwealth Climate Resilience Network and the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network, which help scientists and academics work across borders, are good examples of this collaboration.
During his talk, Shukla also explained the typical geographical features of the Northeast, which are Muga silk from Assam, Tree Tomato from Nagaland, Khasi Mandarin from Meghalaya, and Naga Chilli; they all have specific qualities which is very significant to the culture of the region. He shared that AI and blockchain technologies can trace and verify these GI items, advancing authenticity and building market trust and, eventually, monetary value. AI may optimize consumer behaviour, predict market tendencies, and maximize the demand for these products using personalized advertising. Furthermore, AI can be used by farmers and artisans to provide consultative, precision, or predictive analysis for better profitability and productivity through monitoring systems for weather patterns, soil health, and crop health.
In addition, the AI can assist with monitoring and enforcing intellectual property by detecting the GI’s fake products.
“AI-aided platforms can train the local producers to create favorable conditions for the best practices and better income,” he said.
