Shillong, May 9: Vegetable traders are losing out on income as their produce rots in trucks stuck on dilapidated roads in East Jaintia Hills and they recently took up the matter with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, urging him to find a solution at the earliest.
The Meghalaya Traders Fresh Vegetables and Ginger Association informed Tynsong that the bad road conditions in Lumshnong, Sonapur and Kuliang in the Narpuh area have made it extremely difficult to transport vegetables to other states like Assam, Tripura and Mizoram.
The leaders of the association added that the vehicles transporting goods get stuck for days due to the bad roads and most of the produce gets spoiled or does not reach the destination on time, resulting in great losses for the suppliers and farmers.
The association also raised concerns about the weighbridges at Umling, Khlieh Tyrshi, Ratacherra and various other check gates, as well as the no-entry imposed at various points, which are disrupting the transportation of goods.
They said that Tynsong had assured them to address the matter.
