Nativity Higher Secondary School was crowned as Overall Team Champions of the District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2024 for South West Khasi Hills.
The girls and boys team of the school were presented with the ‘Best Team’ title during the closing ceremony of the event held at the Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium, Mawlangwir today.
The top athlete in the Under-14 Boys category was presented to Robertson Marwein of Nativity Higher Secondary School, while Lanosha K Syiemiong of J.K.M.P Higher Secondary School earned the title of the Best Athlete in the Under-14 Girls category.
Rickyshan Iawphniaw of Mawkyrwat Presbyterian Secondary School was awarded as the Best Athlete in the Under-16 Boys category, and Ibandariakor Nongsiej of Nativity Higher Secondary School claimed the same award for the Under-16 Girls category.
Aiborlang Kharjahrin of Ten- Set Secondary School received the award for Best Athlete in the Under-18 Boys category, while Badaphun Nongrem of Nativity Higher Secondary School was adjudged as the Best Athlete in the Under-18 Girls category.
Ten-Set Secondary School claimed victory in the March Past, with Little Star Higher Secondary School and Rising Secondary School securing second and third place, respectively.
The closing ceremony was graced by the State’s oldest marathon runner, Kmoin Wahlang as the chief guest.
Speaking to the students Wahlang urged them to embrace courage and diligence in both their academic and athletic pursuits. She emphasized that success stems from hard work and dedication and encouraged students to heed the advice and guidance of their parents and teachers, underscoring the importance of such counsel in achieving success in different fields. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of maintaining physical activity on a daily basis for overall fitness and health.
It may also be mentioned that the winners of this year’s athletic meet will be selected to represent the District in the State Level Inter School Athletic Meet 2024 to be held in Shillong.
Others present at the event were Superintendent of Police, B. Kharjana, AEE PWD (Roads) S.I. Laso, District Sports Officer Damang Syngkon, Benningstar Lyngkhoi and Swording Mawlong, among others.
