The Border Security Force (BSF) today said that it apprehended four Indian nationals in South West Khasi Hills on suspicion of cattle smuggling.
In a release, the BSF said that the incident took place yesterday when the four were picked up near the international border with Bangladesh by the 193rd Battalion. Twenty-eight cattle were rescued in the operation after the suspected smugglers could not provide documentation regarding their transportation.
The animals had been loaded onto two Bolero pick-up trucks. The seized cattle and suspected smugglers were handed over to police.
Separately, the BSF’s 1st Battalion in conjunction with Meghalaya police seized 16 tonnes of sugar that had been dumped at an abandoned house in the jungle near the South Garo Hill border with Bangladesh. The seized sugar was handed over to Rongra police station for further necessary action.
