BJP working hard to convince members to support Agatha

Every vote for NPP is vote for Modi: Conrad

With NPP working all out to ensure the victory of its candidate from Tura parliamentary seat, Agatha Sangma in the April 19 Lok Sabha election in the State, the BJP too is mobilising its party workers to support the NPP candidate.

What makes the exercise special is that the coordination efforts are being steered at the highest level, with BJP being led by State party president Rikman G. Momin and NPP being captained by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma himself.

Yesterday, a meeting was held between top leaders of NPP and BJP in Tura to coordinate the election campaign for Agatha Sangma.

The Tura meet marks the second such summit between the top leaders of the two parties and comes subsequent to the one that was held in Shillong recently.

The meeting was also attended by the two BJP MDCs, Bernard Marak and Benedict Marak, along with over 300 leaders and workers of the party.

The meeting was aimed at dismantling reports regarding disgruntlement amongst the BJP members and supporters in both Shillong and Tura parliamentary constituencies regarding the party’s decision to support the NPP in the two seats of the State.

At the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma gave special praise for Momin, calling his efforts at ensuring smooth coordination and perfect teamwork an inspiration in itself.

“The State BJP president’s single minded endeavours towards confirming an NDA victory should serve as an example for everyone,” Sangma commented.

The chief minister reminded the gathering of the close relationship he has shared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a relationship that goes back over a decade, and pointed out that every vote for the NPP candidate is a reaffirmation of people’s faith in the leadership of Modi.

Meanwhile, the State BJP president negated reports carried in a local newspaper which claimed that absorption of the two BJP MDCs was a condition laid out by BJP in return for support to Agatha Sangma during the elections.

“The central leadership of BJP decided to support NDA candidates in Meghalaya and the disciplined workers of the party don’t even dream of going against our highly respected leadership. I am repeating this again, as it warrants repetition. Such stories reek of vested interests and reputed media houses should avoid printing such baseless tales,” Momin said.

The State BJP also hit out at Trinamool Congress leader Dr. Mukul Sangma who had alleged that Congress candidate Vincent Pala was the architect of a BJP-NPP-Congress nexus in Meghalaya.

“Officially BJP in Meghalaya is supporting NPP as an alliance partner of the NDA. BJP’s tie up with the Congress is an absurd remark,” said BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang.
