With the Lok Sabha election only a few weeks away, top civil servants and police officers met today to discuss the inter-state border with Assam and other related security issues.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang. Also present were Additional Chief Secretary Home (Police) Shakil P Ahammed, Director General of Police Lajja Ram Bishnoi, Commissioner and Secretary of the Excise, Registration, Taxes, Stamps (ERTS) Department Sanjay Goyal, Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari, an Inspector General of the Border Security Force (BSF) and others.
Wahlang sought information on these issues for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, in which the DGP gave a presentation on the law and order situation in the state and in the border areas. He also informed on the close coordination with the Assam police to maintain peace in the border areas, many areas of which are in dispute. The Election Commission of India has fixed an inter-state border meeting on April 3, 2024 with Assam.
They also discussed the steps taken to keep a vigil on inter-state border movement, prevention/detention of anti-social elements, plan for surveillance and sealing of entry and exit points and porous inter-state borders, declaration of dry and paid holidays, execution of non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and other matters.
