Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today laid the foundation stone for construction of a ‘mechanised multi-level car parking’ at Ward’s Lake.
He said the parking space is a step towards decongesting the city. Although the government has a large scale master plan of decongesting the city by moving offices to the new administrative city and the knowledge city to the New Shillong Township it is also working everyday on small things that will make a difference.
Sangma informed that the project cost is about Rs. 90 crore with a capacity of 465 parking spaces.
The projects unveiled today include the Development of a Commercial Building at Polo Market Junction, a mechanised Multi-Level Car Parking at Vivekananda Road near Additional Secretariat and Polo Commercial Complex Phase – 3, Beautification of Ïewduh Market, and the Improvement & Beautification of Five Lakes in the State.
The state government is also adopting urban rejuvenation solutions wherein five lakes in the state will be beautified under the Urban Affairs Department which include the Ward’s Lake, Malse Lake, and Nirman Jheel in Shillong, Memo Lake in Williamnagar and Rangjokram Lake in Resubelpara.
Sangma also said that the government has an ambitious vision to transform the capital city of Shillong into a modern and liveable city.
On beautification of Ïewduh, the Chief Minister said that the government is planning to improve infrastructures to facilitate a better traction of tourists and its own citizens visiting the market.
He informed an amount of Rs. 15 crore will be spent to beautify the market out of which Rs. 5 crore has been sanctioned and another Rs. 10 crore is in the pipeline.
