The Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of West Khasi Hills, organised a two-day training programme for medical staff of Nongstoiñ Community Health Centre on February 26-27.
The objective of the programme was to sensitise the trainees on various aspects of disaster management. The programme touched on the role and responsibility of the medical team, ‘B+asic course’ on search and rescue and first aid.
Medical Health Officer Dr T Syiem was present at the inaugural function. In his address he urged all the trainees to respond effectively in disaster situations, especially during emergencies and also to help in spreading awareness.
Others who spoke on the occasion included J Mawthoh, District Disaster Management Officer. Other resource persons included MGR Shabong, assistant general secretary-cum-coordinator of the Red Cross Society, P Deb, state organiser-cum-trainer and Ivanylla Swer.
