Works for construction of a mini secretariat at Jowai has begun and the Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), which has been pushing the government to fulfil the commitment made to be people of the district, is happy.
Leaders of the organisation led by western zone president Leo Ferdinand Dhar and general secretary Heibormi Lyngdoh visited the site today.
Dhar said their persistence to push for the construction of the mini secretariat has fructified. However, he urged the government not to abandoned the project midway and that it should be at par with that in Tura.
“As mentioned by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that large investment and administrative reforms will be taken up in Tura Mini Secretariat, the same should come up in Jowai,” Dhar said.
The JNC also reminded the government of the long-pending projects like the Iawmusiang building complex and said the Jaintia Hills needs development which the government should fulfill the promises made.
Further it urged the government to revise or take a resolution on the Smart Town project in Jowai stating that the budget is less when compared to Tura.
