Two mobile food testing laboratory vehicles were launched here today in an effort to enhance food safety in Meghalaya.
The vehicles were virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while he was at a function in Rajkot.
The two mobile labs of the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) are known as Food Safety on Wheel (FSWs).
The FSWs, equipped with cutting-edge facilities and expert staff, will not only enhance testing capabilities but also deliver essential training to strengthen food safety practices. Furthermore, they will create awareness among the public by reaching the farthest corners of the state, a press release stated today.
The launch of the two vehicles comes at a total project cost of Rs 95 lakh.
Cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Commissioner of Food Safety Meghalaya Joram Beda and Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills RM Kurbah attended the programme in Shillong in person.
Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs 48,100 crore while in Rajkot, Gujarat. The projects encompass sectors like health, road, rail, energy, petroleum and natural gas and tourism, among others.
