Community members of Ri Bhoi held a candle light vigil in honour of Kitborlang Marbaniang at Patharkhmah today.
The 10 year old boy was found murdered at Umtangar village on February 18.
Two suspects identified as Pynshailang Warjri (32) of the village and Banshngai Tynsong (28) of Nongthymmai Lapalang in Pynurlsa, were arrested by Ri Bhoi police for the crime.
According to police, the duo had confessed to committing the crime because the boy had attempted to flee with a liquor bottle belonging to one of them. After the murder, the accused had dumped the body in the garden of one Comand Nongrang, who was also arrested.
A signature campaign to demand life imprisonment for the accused was also held.
Traditional chief of Hima Jirang H. Syiem, Western Ri Bhoi Dorbar President Enias Rani, and Fr. Michael Sun, parish priest of Umkadhor Parish, leaders of the Khasi Students Union, Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, Ri Bhoi Youth Federation of the district took part in mourning the loss of the boy.
Participants denounced the murder and said that such crimes should not go unpunished.
