The Ri-Bhoi unit of the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) held a rally here today expressing concern over alleged harassment of locals along the disputed Meghalaya-Assam border, especially in Block 2 areas.
The rally was prompted by recent incidents where four locals were allegedly targeted by Assam police over a project’s implementation in Block 2. Assam police had accused of dismantling an SSA school in Khliehumwang.
The rally ended in a public meeting where HYC leaders vehemently condemned the Meghalaya government’s supposed inaction towards the challenges faced by border area residents. They demanded immediate measures to ensure the safety of individuals residing in Ri-Bhoi’s border regions until a conclusive border settlement is reached.
