Taxation Minister Abu Taher Mondal today claimed that the State government is not sitting idle on complaints of tax evasion in the State.
“Wherever and whenever some complaints are received we take necessary actions. We are not sitting idle,” Mondal told media persons here.
It may be mentioned that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in various reports has revealed several cases of tax evasion.
“Whenever CAG gives the report we immediately refer it to the Assembly’s public accounts committee which goes through it and gives its comments. That is the procedure we follow,” Mondal said.
The taxation minister also said that earlier petrol pump owners were paying taxes in six months to a year but now it has been made mandatory that monthly taxes should be paid to the government
He said that similar initiatives to collect the taxes and ensure its timely payment are being initiated at various levels and the steps have slowly started showing results.
