The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya seized spectacles and arrested two persons in a special operation carried out along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district.
BSF officials said acting on a specific tip-off, troops of the 193 Battalion yesterday observed an overloaded vehicle discreetly parked in a narrow lane leading towards the international border. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be loaded with suspected smuggling items, specifically spectacles, the BSF said.
The driver and co-driver of the vehicle were apprehended as they failed to provide satisfactory answers and were unable to produce any valid documents regarding the consignment of spectacles worth more than Rs 50 lakh.
Both the accused and the seized items were handed over to the Dangar police station for further legal action.
